A COLLECTORS THOUGHTS when asked why someone loves something, be it aperson or art, the answer is never simple. Is is a combination of experiences, enviromental surroundings and genetic preference. Being born in Vienna, Austria, and having had The benefit exposure to mythology, music and art in the classical manner, i longed, like so many others, to own masters like leonardo, Michelangelo and Timoremo. My voracious visual appetite was hampered by the pocketbook of a student and struggling physician. As my interest in art increased, as well as my work as a plastic surgeon, I studied the works of the great lithographers and was drawn to the period of art nouveau, particularly the masters of the poster, and primarily, Toulouse Lautrec. His combination of color and psychological insight touched me deeply and obviously filled an emotional need. When i was fortunate enough to meet the neomannerists and their mentor professor GATT during the time of their first exhibition in Los Angeles in 1988 and had the privilege of seeing their work, my heart jumped for joy. Here was one canvas another, recalling scenes from the past, declaring the rebirth of art for arts sake and forsaking the senseless collage of cacophonous colors that adorn the walls of so many museums and galleries in our present day. As i stand entranced in front our collection there is a sense of harmony and tranquility within me. The needs are fullfilled, the visual expectations are met, and beauty reigns supreme. I am not an art scholar; nor am i a fool, The critic's rhetoric to me is amusing and at times bewildering. But one thing is clear-the New Italian Manner should be The New World Manner, bringing with it visual and sensual pleasuresfor us all. Kurt Wagner
